What Happens When Every Nigerian Is Corrupt? What Would We Fight Against? INcorruption?

What Happens When Every Nigerian Is Corrupt? What Would We Fight Against? INcorruption?

When the current ruling party in Nigeria, the All Progressive Congress, was campaigning in 2014; they emphasized on the need to fight against corruption: For if Nigerians don't fight against corruption (kill it); corruption would kill Nigeria. Fast forward events in Nigeria from then to now; it appears that very little (if at all) has been done (perhaps, achieved). The question then is, "Why has the government fight against corruption yielded little or no result in the last 3 and half years?"

While meditating on the course of events in Nigeria; from Governance to Religion and to the Political Parties. I came to a point of acknowledging the possibility that "we" are all corrupt. If it is difficult for "us" to fight against corruption, it may mean that there is something about us and about corruption that resonates well.

Some time ago, while addressing a crowd, Jesus said in Israel, "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against itself falls. If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand?" (Luke 11:17-18). Although, the politicians  shouts, screams and even plead to Nigerians in every election period; it is clear that Satan is hardly divided against himself. Ultimately, a politician is still a politician - party affiliation notwithstanding. For the loyalty of their people, politicians maintain or change parties; however, the ultimate loyalty of an average politician is to his fellow  politicians. For only a fellow politician shares his or her pains, aspirations, fear, greed, anxiety or ambitions. They are the ones that meet to share national wealth and also share the risk of publicity.

What then happens to a nation whose corruption index or corruption perception is at an all-time high; yet there is no one in the nation to fight against corruption? What happens to corruption when everyone is corrupt? I believe very strongly that when everyone is corrupt; integrity, purity, incorruption or justice would come under aggressive criticism, attack and scrutiny. Would you ask yourself, what is easier to do in Nigeria  today? Is it to be corrupt? Or is it to be a person of honour and integrity?

While I leave you with the thought, I want you to examine your heart, motives and judgment; have you been honest most of the time in the last 7 days or have you been dishonest, selfish and ambitious?

Thank you for your time.
